Well, I think they must have been doing test flights for angles with a
different owl, because I'll bet the house that's a barn owl. (A) not white
(B) big ol' round feather-disk areas around the eyes (term escapes me,
sorry). We see a lot of the North American variety around here--they're
smaller, but same conformation. I think even immature snowy owls are, well,
snowy.

I don't think this is supposed to be Hedwig at all. She's not *at* Privet
Drive in book 1, is she? I bet this is part of the owl flurry, all over
England, at the start of the book. Because even Harry's first letter from
Hogwarts comes by Muggle post.
