Marauder's Map problem

Have you ever played the computer game "Rogue"? It is very old, one of
the first games to use graphics, albiet very primitive asci ones.
Basically you are presented with the map of a dungeon which you must
find your way through. Whenever a room becomes relevent (ie: there is
gold or some creature you must battle) or if you are simply heading
toward the room, it appears. Rooms disappear "off the side of the
page" as you work through them. When you want to look at other rooms,
you click in their general direction. And yes it is possible to move
up or down a level.
I imagine the map as being somewhat like this.
