If Snape's outward appearance is due to lack of social contacts and
neglect, then he has been that way for most of his life! I have also
heard those who think he makes himself *look* like this so the young
girls at Hogwarts or any other young lady won't be interested in
him. If Snape has allowed his hygiene and outward appearance to
decline because there is nothing of significance in life for him,
then how do we explain why he came to Hogwarts oily, slimy, and
greasy?
