According to JKR in an interview, it's very important and we'll find 
out later. I agree with some others around here who think it has 
something to do with predicting that Harry would bring the downfall 
of Voldemort (or perhaps that Gryffindor's heir would ultimately 
destroy Slytherin's heir). This prediction is known to Voldemort and 
that is why he is trying to wipe out all of the Potter family, the 
last remaining heir of Gryffindor. NOTE: This is NOT canon, this is 
my guess. We don't KNOW that Harry is Gryffindor's last remaining 
heir. But it seems to make sense.
