Rita asked whether 9 generations would take us back to when the founders
founded Hogwarts, in the context of determining pure blood. 

The answer is that Wizarding generations are likely 25 years each, same as
Muggle ones are counted, because witches seem to get pregnant at vaguely the
same ages as their Muggle counterparts, although we don't know if they can
be in their late 40's and older and still get pregnant easily without
medical intervention. Generations aren't based on lifespans, and thus it's
likely that nine generations doesn't go back further than the reign of
George the Third, well after the wizarding world went into hiding.
