Snape certainly favors Malfoy but whether this is
because of genuine liking or a matter of policy,
(keeping up his cover with his fellow DEs) is a
unknown. I personally lean towards the latter
explanation.

Harry himself credits Dumbledore with preventing
Snape from failing him but in fact this is mere
assumption on his part. Harry apparently is not very
good at potions and Snape marks him accordingly. IMO
Snape's peculiar but very real sense of honor would
not allow him to give Harry a lesser mark than he deserves.
