 HP woudn't be the first story to use this sort of narrative twist anyway. The most prominent recent example would of course be AMERICAN BEAUTY (which actually breaks *several* narrative rules to lovely effect), but a couple of others would be LOLITA (Humbert has died by the time the narrative framework starts) and HAMLET.
