Except that we know James was there when Voldmore arrived at their
house. In PoA 12, when Harry is practising the Patrunus Charm with
Lupin, he hears his father shouting "Lily, take Harry and go! It's
him! I'll hold him off--"
I personally feel that too much is made of the lack of a Priori
Incatatem shadow effect for the spell that rebounded on
Voldemort. After all, a lot more had been done with Voldemort's wand
between then and Voldemort's rebirth than just the deaths of Bertha
Jorkins and Frank Bryce; there's the torture of Jorkins, and whatever
magic Womtail had done to get Voldemort into his pdeudo-body. (I think
it's a reasonable assumption that all of that was done with
Voldemort's wand, since Wormtail didn't have one, and Jorkins and
Bryce were killed with that wand. Though it does beg the question of
how Voldemort got that wand back in the first place.)
