There is also the matter that it is pretty traditional for French 
names to get English-ized to avoid seeming pretentious. I speak 
French with quite a competant Canadian accent, however I would NEVER 
say "Par-ree" instead of Paris. We have a road in our town 
called "Notre Dame", which everyone in the city calls "Noter Dame" 
(Like "Motor" and "Same"), not because we don't know better, but 
simple because we'd be looked at as ridiculous snobs if we stuck in 
the French. I guess it is for that reason that I've always 
pronounced the 't'.
