But doesn't Dumbledore tell Harry that James left it in his (Dumbledore's) Possession? If I am correct then he tells him in the hospital scene at the end of the book, and even if it is not there I definitely remember him telling him at some point in the book.

Found it.
Pg 217 UK.
' Harry said, "And the Invisibility cloak - do you know who sent it to me?"
'Ah - your father happened to leave it in my possession and I thought you might like it' Dumbledore's eyes twinkled."
So that would point towards it being Dumbledore. I should also think that Harry would have seen Snape and McGonagall writing. Just because they teach magic doesn't mean they wouldn't use a black/white board or wizard equivalent. I can imagine Snape writing ingredients and methods to make potions on the board, and I it mentioned somewhere in the books that the students have to "make a lot of complicated notes" (Pg 100, The Potions Master, UK) in Transfiguration which I would interpret as both dictating and copying from a board (we also see notes left on the board in the film -SORRY)
