Oh, I agree with you 100%.  I'm not saying that Ron is *at fault* for 
his behavior, just that it is sufficiently annoying that it doesn't 
need to conceal veiled romantic intentions.  Hermione would --I 
assume, as would just about anyone else-- be really ticked off at Ron 
for the way he treated her when he "noticed" she's a girl and asked 
her to go to the ball (and I'll point out again that it seems to be 
as much in Harry's behalf as in his), his unjustified anger and 
resentment from that time forward, and creating that entire row in 
the common room after the ball.

While all that behaviour is fairly standard for a 14-year old boy who 
doesn't really realize what he wants relationship-wise, it's 
extremely frustrating to older or more mature folks, as well as to 
girls of the same age.  Hermione doesn't need to feel a burning fire 
in her loins for Ron to react the way she does -- she just needs to 
act the same way most any other girl would.
