First of all, just because I interpret this scene differently than you
do does NOT mean I have misinterpreted it. Disagreeing with me is
much more effective than insulting me.
Now, my FEELING is that Hermione and Ron are attracted to each other.
I have never said that it is a fact. My FEELING about the fight after
the Yule Ball was that Hermione is, in an indirect way, telling Ron
that he could have asked her to the Ball because she would have said
yes. She says "Next time there's a ball, ask me before someone else
does, and not as a last resort!". I believe Hermione isn't simply
saying that to make a point; she is saying it because she would have
been his date had he asked. Hermione pretty much says what she feels;
she's not one for bullsh**.
The other general feelings I get that Ron and Hermione are attracted
to each other come up later in GoF. Hermione scowls when Fleur smiles
at Ron and Ron yells at Hermione "You better hurry up!" (last chapter)
when she goes to speak with Krum; he doesn't seem to want her to talk
to Krum at all. Of course, there is also the Ball itself, where Ron
ignores his very pretty date and spends most of the evening glaring at
Hermione and Viktor. As someone who distinctly remembers staring
painfully at the boy I liked talking with/dancing with/looking at some
other girl, I felt Ron's frustration there.
All I'm saying is that I feel that JKR has set up an attraction
between Hermione and Ron, but I agree with Ebony that all of us,
whatever SHIP we like, are basing as many of our arguments on our own
interpretations as on canon itself. I know I am.
