I've hardly insulted you. And I believe I should be able to point
out that *I think* this has been broadly misinterpreted by SHIPpers
of all stripes without anyone having to take it personal.

After all, I have a very objective reason for thinking so. There is
a key piece of evidence which is left off the FAQ, and left out of
every discussion that I've ever seen on the issue, and that is that
Ron *didn't* ask Hermione as a last resort for himself. He told
Hermione that "[she] can go with one of us" referring to himself and
Harry -- and then his initial anger was that Hermione was consorting
with "the enemy" which *implies* that he might even be more concerned
about Harry at this point (at least) than with himself.

If this evidence has been broadly ignored, it has been broadly
misinterpreted (which is what I stated) or perhaps more correctly it
has failed to be interpreted at all. I'm not saying that this will
change anyone's opinion of how events play out, or what they think
happened between Ron and Hermione the night of the ball, but to fail
to even consider it weakens anyone's case considerably, IMO.
