Moving from the fanfic aspect:

I enjoy discussion lists like this one because for me it *is* all in 
fun.  I love to see what other people have picked up on in the books 
that I've missed; I love to see the range of possible interpretations 
of details; I love to see other people loving the books as much as I 
do.  All of that enhances my enjoyment of the books, really.

I've really made a concerted effort to not pass judgement on 
possiblities ~ rather, to not decide that one possibility is TRUTH, 
and another is not.  I may settle on one as being more possible in my 
mind, but imho it's not fact until JKR makes it canon.  

Doesn't stop me from being reeeeeally impressed and loving some of 
y'all's ideas, though.  :-)
