Hi everyone --
Just a reminder that this is a diverse group of people with wide-ranging
interests within the HP fandom. As part of this list, there will no
doubt be subjects that you love & subjects that you hate and probably
lots in between. This *is* a high-volume list. That fact is noted on
the group's homepage and stressed in the Welcome Message and ADMIN files
that you are all expected to read.
Before you despair though, you *do* have options.
Liquidfire just complained that merely deleting all the shipping posts
that he hates takes some time & energy. I understand. I'm on
individual emails too, and it is tiresome to delete message after
message in a thread that I find uninteresting. For me though, the
threads that I delete whole-sale are relatively far & few between. So,
it makes sense for me to remain on individual emails since that is my
preferred delivery. HOWEVER ....if you are finding that you are always
deleting far more than you read, here's a friendly suggestion:
Go on Webview. You can easily skim the subject headings in a webview
list & just click on the few messages that you actually want to read. I
have done this on several HP fanfic lists & it works wonderfully as long
as you remember to check the webview once a day or however often you
would check your email.
This brings me to another ADMIN reminder. So that people can do this
easily, be sure your SUBJECT HEADING is clearly labelled. This is
especially true if you hit reply & then take the subject off in another
direction. Be sure the subject clearly reflects what your message is
discussing.
Re: the shipping posts -- they are *on-topic* as long as someone uses
canon to explain their position or argue their side. If they fail to
use canon, rest assured that they will get a howler/warning from the
Mods. But, as long as I'm the List Owner, shipping posts that use canon
will *always* be on-topic. Rest assured, the shipping threads only last
for a short while & only come up every few mths or so.
Penny
