Hi everyone,
I'm coming out of lurkdom to ask some questions that
I've been wondering about.

1) Wands in general. Ollivander seems to make it clear
that the wand chooses the owner. Why does Ron get his
brother's wand then? Why would Charlie get a new one
while Ron just gets the old one? Do wands wear out?
The only thing I can think of to compare it to would
be custom made shoes. They fit the person they're made
for but wouldn't fit anyone else as well.

2) Sirius' motorbike. In PS/SS, after Hagrid drops off
Harry at the Dursley's, he says that he has to take
the motorbike back to Sirius. In PoA, he says that
Sirius told him to take the motorbike because he
wouldn't be needing it anymore. Is Hagrid remembering
wrongly or is it a mistake.

3) Number of students. My theory is that each house is
further divided for classes. For example, Gryffindor
first years might be divided into A, B, and C for
classes so they can get to know other houses. HRH are
all in the same group. So GryffindorA might take
Potions with SlytherinA. However, why don't they mix
them up more? But I also think we're only shown a
small portion of the classes. Potions is mentioned
frequently while others barely at all.

4) Susan Bones. I think she might end up with a larger
role in later books. In PS/SS, Hagrid mentions the
Bones' as being one of the wizarding families that
were murdered. I counted 25 students are mentioned
during the sorting and she is one of them. Could she
end up more than a background character?

I'm really enjoying reading everyone's thoughts
although I'm still having trouble grasping the
time-travel. It just doesn't make sense to me. I keep
reading the posts hoping something will finally make
me go "ahhhh, so that's how it works."
