expressing my POV: this is a list with over 3000 members, which
generates 60-100 posts per day, and to my mind, that's an indication
that if there was an obvious topic division point, a division would
be warranted. And it would seem to me that any topic that requires a
tag on the subject line, that can constitute up to half of the
> posts on the list for an extended period, and that draws repeated
protests from multiple members is a good candidate for such a
division. It's been done before, after all. We have separate HPFGU-
Movie and HPFGU-OTChatter lists. Why not a HPFGU-SHIP list? I imagine
this has been discussed before, but list management is always a
dynamic topic, as the membership grows and changes.

*rolls eyes* Oh, no. Not *this* again.
I've been an HP4GUer for eighteen months now. I must say that I have
very little sympathy for those list members who have no patience with
shipping discussions. Now, I get annoyed at any number of topics
that are discussed here over and over again, but I don't complain. I
simply delete them along with all the junk ads in my e-mailbox and
move on with my life.
When you are part of a community as diverse as this one, there is a
certain amount of give-and-take that goes on. I can list any number
of characters and plotlines I don't give a hoot about speculating on--
until last month's movie, Professor Severus Snape was #1 on that
list, closely followed by Mad-Eye Moody, wand order, and number of
students at Hogwarts.
There are also many subjects that I used to care about during my
early months on the list, but am now *all discussed out* on. I used
to really love any and all MWPP speculation of any shade, but now I
must say that it bores me to tears. I also used to love discussing
time travel, whether the books were sci-fi or fantasy, and
spontaneous generation in this magical world.
I even don't feel the burning need to reply to as many SHIP posts.
Everyone who's been here for a while tends to know who the veteran
battle-scarred and die-hard shippers are and where we all stand. But
I will defend very vocally the right of newbies who are shippers of
*any* stripe to have the freedom to post what they want.
All I'm asking for is a certain level of reciprocity here. The
shippers don't scream and complain about topics that we generally
don't really care about--so why non-shippers have such a problem with
it has always mystified me.

there were any last-minute comments to sum up, and saw this ADMIN

the preferences of the list owner were influencing the handling of
this topic. In that case, perhaps I should reverse my call and
suggest the creation of a new HPFGU-NOSHIP list.
Others who have felt the same have started their own lists. Good
luck.
