My list might be slightly different than others. I do like the notion
of there being negative influences like the Dursleys & Voldemort
included, but for my purposes, my top 5 will just include the positive
influences. :--)
1. Dumbledore -- For all the reasons Jenny gave & more ....he is very
much a mentor & moral compass in my mind.
2. Sirius -- Definitely a father figure, mentor and good influence on Harry
3. James Potter -- Like Cindy said, I think Harry very much is
recalling his father in times of crisis (ever since PoA). He sees his
father as a good person worth emulating. I think he belongs on this
list because of the powerful father-son connection we see demonstrated
through Harry's patronus & thoughts of his father off & on.
4. Remus Lupin -- I would argue he belongs on this list because he
arguably gave Harry his first injection of self-confidence. It's
because of Lupin that Harry was able to conjure a patronus; he really
learned alot from Lupin.
5. Hermione & Ron -- I *had* to lump them together because of the list
needing to be only 5 & I couldn't axe any of the above figures. For the
record, I don't think Hermione is more important than Ron -- that's not
why I listed her name first. It just always gets phrased "Ron &
Hermione" & since I think they are both equally important to Harry as
his best friends, I decided to switch things up a bit. It's *not* a
shipping comment either.
Who might be influential in the coming books? I'd like to see more
females who could be arguably influential. Lily Potter & McGonagall
come to mind as possibilities. I'm surprised no one has yet argued for
Snape. I suspect he *will* get added to this list of influences on
Harry before the series is out. :--)
