Snape and the love interest

I'm new here, so I don't know if this has been posted before but...
J.K. has hinted before at possibility of Snape falling in love, or 
something of the sort. Not explicitly, but she was suprised someone 
had asked a question about that. Here's my theory:
Snape was in love with Lily. That's why he hated James, and that's 
why he hates Harry, but out of his love for Lily still protects him. 
Snape's feelings for Lily were also one of the reasons he left 
Voldemort's grasp and returned to Dumbledore.
Any thoughts?
