it is potion time, Snape brings the steaming goblet, and Lupin drinks
it promptly. So that night, Lupin is just sitting at his desk
watching the map, waiting for Snape. He sees Sirius on the map and
takes off. Then, Snape shows up with the goblet, just like before.
He goes to set the goblet down on Lupin's desk, figuring Lupin will
return momentarily, and sees the map and Lupin running away.

What bothers me about this is that Snape knows that Lupin's off to the Shrieking Shack, and that he's forgotten to take his Potion, and that he's due to turn into a dangerous werewolf at any moment. So why does he rush off to tell him this, but without bothering to take him the potion in question?? Could it be that he's hoping Lupin will bite someone and prove how evil werewolves are (in Snape's eyes!)? But then if he's planning to drag Lupin back to Hogwarts for the potion, he runs the risk of being bitten himself on the way back! Also, IIRC the potion is supposed to be taken immediately, so it wouldn't be much use by the time they'd got all the way back to the castle!
