But Harry heard the snake talking in CoS when the snake was wandering around inside the walls. Harry understood him then when it wasn't talking to Harry, right? I thought Harry heard the snake tell Voldy that there was somebody in the hallway of Riddle House too. It's been awhile since I read that one though, so I could be mistaken.
Have a great day, Wanda

I was drinking iced tea when I read this, and nearly choked on it
  laughing. LOL.

By the way (and this thought followed on the inane thought of "Well,
if it is that boa, I'd think he'd've at least said, "Hey! It's me!
Hope you don't take it personally when I eat you later!"), there was
no indication that Harry understood Nagini's hissing. I mean, Nagini
slithered around and hissed, and *was* in fact 'talking,' since
Voldemort 'answered' a query (in Parseltongue, I wonder?) with
something along the lines of "yes you can eat Potter, but lemme
finish with him first, 'kay?" So Nagini was speaking; yet Harry had
no thoughts/reactions to what Nagini said.

Also...didn't the big snake beastie in CoS hiss-talk at Riddle? And
I don't recall indication of Harry catching the conversation.

I just wonder if Harry always understands snakes, or if he only
understands them, say, when they speak directly to him.

  Mahoney
