It makes sense, up to the point with the conversation with Dumbledore 
(end of book 2, translated from my language as well as I could):
"It is our elections, Harry, the ones that demosntrate what we are, 
much more than our abilities"

It's because of this phrase that I defend that the most important thing 
for the hat is what you choose, more than anything else (including 
personality, friends, family, etc.)
