This subject has cropped up before, but it's been a while, so I'll
just toss in more or less what I said last time around plus a bit
more accurate geography.
If you take a map of the British isles and draw a straight line from
Surrey through Bristol, then the only land you really hit is
Glamorgan. If you go right to the border with Sussex, you can just
about manage a bit of southern Ireland, and possibly Gower and
Milford Haven. You certainly don't go anywhere near Snowdonia. There
are a few small islands in the Bristol Channel (Flatholm, Steepholm,
Grassholm, Lundy etc.) which are also possible.
It seems to me that Hagrid would have been steering with a compass,
in which case he would most likely have headed due east from Bristol,
to take him to London and find Little Winging from there; let's face
it, I doubt Hagrid's navigational skills are up to calculating a
direction more accurate than that.
Therefore, as far as possible start of journey locations are
concerned, he could only really have come from Glamorgan or an
island. Everywhere else, including Ireland and the rest of Wales is
just too far north. If Hagrid did lie low in a bolthole somewhere for
the missing 24 hours of the timeline, then a small Bristol Channel
island would be ideal.
Or, the missing 24 hours could be explained by Godrics Hollow being
located in America and Hagrid flying all the way.
