Maybe she was thinking of Romulus. Romulus and Remus were the names of the two
brothers in Roman mythology who were raised by wolves and who founded Rome. The
situation isn't a complete parallel, however, UNLESS....
Maybe Remus Lupin's parents were *also* werewolves? I mean, with a family name
like "Lupin"...! It would explain why he was bitten so young, as well. And given
Rowling's clear lack of prejudice against Lupin as a werewolf, we might suppose
she doesn't think any werewolves are necissarily evil.
In fact, the big deal about Lupin (from his parents' point of view) might be
that he's a wizard, not that he's a werewolf. Possibly his brother Romulus
isn't, and his parents might not be, either.
And perhaps he taught at a werewolf school for several years, hence the peeling
letters on his case. (I suspect werewolves don't have buckets of money with
which to pay their professors.)
I hereby found W.H.I.L.S.T: Werewolves, Heredity Is Lupin's Source of Trouble.
The usual two sickles: our membership packet includes a full-color copy of
Lupin's family tree and a draft of his resume, along with two autographed photos
(one in each form) and a packet of "Instant Wolfsbane Potion" -- now sweetened
with Nutrasweet(TM)!
