I think the Marauder's Map, like Tom Riddle's diary, is infused with the younger personalities of its makers - why else would it have thrown the juvenile insults that it did at Snape? It certainly seemed to think those up, and not just be repeating stock phrases.

Good point. I would think they are somewhat like the Diary again - after all, at one point one of the former Hogwart's headmasters is having Christmas with Sir Cadugan.
