Percy and Pettigrew

With all this talk of Percy heading for trouble, and Pettigrew already 
in it, does it strike anyone that the two are already linked? Scabbers 
was Percy's pet for 9 years. 

You see, despite wanting to join P.I.N.E., I see Percy getting 
entangled in Voldemort's clutches not by any will of his own. 
Voldemort has highly placed supporters in the Ministry, and it can be 
guaranteed that the less-wary (like Percy) will be used as tools for 
their plans. I also expect that things will come to the point where 
Percy will understand what is happening, and, because he's the 
Gryffindor I know he is, he'll defy them. And, then?

Well, I'm feeling more and more sure that Percy will be dead by Book 
7. I hate the idea, but I can't get rid of it. 

UNLESS

What if Pettigrew paid back his debt to Harry by saving Percy? And 
there'd be a double motivation to it. Percy was his old master, and 
probably didn't badmouth him all the time (like Ron.)

OTOH, there could be a certain scene.

"You threw me over for that owl! Prepare to die, Mr. Weasley!"
