This doesn't explain why Bertha Jorkins knew Harry, though it isn't
like he's hard to recognize (or that he would be an unlikely guess as
to what teenage wizard would be fighting Voldemort). And, of course,
Lily and James didn't know Harry after he was a bit over a year old,
but, well, he *is* their son.

It occurs to me that it must be well-known what these "shadows" are,
because while the brother-wand effect is of course quite rare, the
Priori Incatatem spell is not, as we saw Crouch use it on Harry's wand
earlier in the book, and it seems pretty clear to me that it's the
same effect. I'm certain that, back in the day, Aurors had plenty of
occasion to use it on where one of the previous spells had been Avada
Kedavara.
