Dark Mark as evidence of being a Death Eater

Something just occurred to me about the Dark Mark: Snape states in GoF
that it is burned onto every DE's arm by Voldemort, as a way of
identifying each other. This seems to be news to Fudge, but it's
definitely known to Moody in the staircase scene, where he makes the
remark about "stains that never come off", or some such. But it
doesn't sound like the presence or absence of a Dark Mark was even
checked for when the suspectd DE's were being rounded up after
Voldemort's downfall.

Now, it's quite paossible that, with Voldemort incapacitated, the mark
basically disappeared, as we know waxes and wanes with Voldemort's
strength.
