Mahoney asked:
I do want to hear (well, er, read) theories as to why he hasn't been
given the job, but I'm also interested in possibly some concrete
explication, especially if based on text, as to evidence that he
actually wants it. Not that the simple postulation that it's a fun
idea isn't absolutely valid (:-P) but I am hoping there might be some
substantiation profferred...?
Hi everybody! I'm Rebecca, delurking,
I reread all 4 books looking for just this -- concrete evidence that he actually wants the job, and I sure can't find it. Which of course doesn't exactly prove anything, but I'd like to take this chance to ask a couple of related questions of my own and see if anyone has any theories...
1. Is the job actually jinxed? If so, who do you think would jinx it? Is it to anyone's advantage to have a new professor every year?
2. If it is only a rumor and Snape doesn't care whether he gets the job or not, then how did the rumor get started? Do you think anyone was deliberately trying to mislead the students?
Thanks! The revolving DADA position is one of my favorite running themes in the series -- it's sort of like Spinal Tap's self-combusting drummers. ;-)
/Rebecca
