You know, I've always loved the "Petunia is a Squib!" theory--lol, even
though i thought it was just my personal brilliant idea-- but these two
facts are very compelling and I'm glad you mentioned them. Especially the
half-blood parallel between Tom and Harry.  JKR probably wouldn't have
had Harry emphasize this so firmly in book 2 (isn't that scene in the
chamber of secrets where he spits out, "My common, *Muggle-born* mother"?)
unless she were going to use that parallel as an important plot device
later on. I firmly believe that if we *do* find out that Petunia was a
Squib in upcoming books, JKR will also extend the revelation to LV
himself--maybe Tom Riddle's *father* was a squib!

I can't wait to find out what in the world happened to Lily and Petunia's
parents, then...I get the feeling they may have "mysteriously died in a
car crash" as well--and if they did indeed die as a result of their
magical abilities, that would fully explain why Petunia was so
eager to hide from magic, and why she resents her sister so much....
