Hi

I was just wondering where all the Hogwart's students gain their
basic skills? As there is no mention of primary schools and we can
assume that the children would know much more about the muggle world
if they attended "normal" schools, does that mean they are taught
reading, writing and arithmetic at home?

I have visions of poor Mrs Weasley having had to home school Ginny,
Ron, George, Fred, Percy, Bill and Charlie before they headed off to
Hogwart's at age 11. Based on this theory, she could well have had
a class of 4 or 5 kids to teach at any one time. No wonder she uses
magic to help make dinner!

Another question I have is how do witches and wizards make money
and/or find employment. The occupations seem to be fairly limited,
eg. MoM, shops in Diagon Alley, working for Gringotts,
teaching/working at Hogwarts and assumedly professional Quidditch
players. Surely there must be other ways of earning a knut or two?

And my final question: A lot of wizards and witches came to the
world cup - but they were the lucky ones who could afford and get
access to tickets and were able to travel to England. Is there any
place in the books which tells us the total population of wizards
and witches in the Potterverse?

Just wondering

Isabelle
