Are you saying you think he wondered about this back at the first DADA
class of 4th year? My strong impression from "The Pensieve" is that
he has never given it enough thought for his silence to be interpreted
as discretion or sensitivity:

Dumbledore gave Harry a very sharp look.
'Has Neville never told you why he has been brought up by his
grandmother?' he said.
Harry shook his head, wondering, as he did so, how he could have
failed to ask Neville this, in almost four years of knowing him.

and then, after Dumbledore explains:

Harry sat there, horror-struck. He had never known . . . never, in
four years, bothered to find out . . .

Ah, good point.

I would like to nominate Muridae for an Order of the Loon for her
contribution of freeze-frames, which are like food to starving
L.O.O.N.s (and the latest report on the release date of book 5
suggests that we may well be down to skin and bones before our next
real meal).
