What age range do you think the HP books are intended for?

Personally, I feel it is for the mature mind that can process the
> fact that Harry Potter is fighting off evil and facing death. He's
> growing up in a frightening world and death and those kind of
things
> can scare smaller children.

Jon wrote in Book V & BBC interview:

HP as children's book -> A direct quote from JKR's own letter - "Dear
Mr. Little, I have written a book intended for 9-12 year olds".
Pretty conclusive, no?

JKR also said in that BBC interview that something along the lines of
childern being able to understand or deal with a lot more than we
give them credit for.

Interestingly, she also said that these are books for "obsessives"
[maybe she's visited HP4GU's ;) ]

I've heard that the books might be gradually 'growing' with Harry &
his friends as they move up each year so does the target audience
with each book roughly being published a year on...where's my Order
of Phoenix!!!

It was good to hear when she read a book JKR liked to think the
author knew all there is to know about the background and details of
the subject-matter. One of the publicists was taken aback after
taking on the first book and asking her about sequels - she proceeded
to reel off the plots through the seven books!

Anyways, even if I'm supposed to be well past my sell by date for
reading these books, I still find them absorbing, they seem to all
fit together like a complicated jigsaw, and its good fun trying to
put them into place, even if we haven't got lots of important pieces
yet!
