Ah, I read about this somewhere.  The plot hole had to do with how Rita got her information from Hogwarts; originally there was meant to be a nasty Weasley cousin who leaks information about the Trio to her, but JKR eventually decided to cut her out and made Rita an Animagus instead.  Which suggests that she can sense that she's about reached her unregistered Animagus quota by now.

Couldn't that have been more easily solved by getting Weasley/Moody to see and confiscate the Map a lot earlier, perhaps by having him seeing Cousin Weasley snooping about, going out to inspect and then having the whole Egg and magic step scenario?  Could be managed, at a pinch.

On the names - Isabel is a much nicer name than Morag... did JKR change it to make her sound more sinister?

Poor JKR.  If I were her, I'd rather not know about HP4GU.  Nothing would put me off more than knowing there were a couple of thousand rapacious fans out there milking my every word and televised appearance for information...
