I've seen the wolfish-man type of werewolf in movies too, but the only
werewolf movies I've seen have been the Grade Z variety where the
special effects budget is $5.74 (whatever the director found in his
couch that a.m., I suspect) and they're lucky to have a hand puppet to
communicate a wolfish sort of thing. They can't show the entire
transformation from man to wolf nor a wolf running around, so they
don't.

>From the "curl up" reference, the scene where he transforms, and most
definitively from the fine points that distinguish true wolves from
werewolves (as supplied by Hermione when Snape subs in DADA), it seems
that he looks just like a wolf. However, from both PoA and Fantastic
Beasts and Where to Find Them we know that werewolves don't act like
real wolves in that they actively seek out human prey; real wolves are
generally very shy of people. Guess Hermione didn't get around to
mentioning that. ;-)
