Also, if you'll remember, the Fat Lady that guards Gryffindor tower knew who
Sirius was - she revealed his name when asked who had slashed her picture.
Now it's true that she might have known him anyway, but it seems more likely
that she'd know him if he'd belonged in her tower at some point in the past.
