What is a shipper?

I'm new to the list (I joined after seeing the article on CNN.com) and have been enjoying the information/observations/opinions on the HP books.

However, I must know - what is a shipper?

I hope this isn't the hundredth time for this question, but I'm probably not the only one wondering if there are other new folks on the list.
