One other area of considerable interest: the www.harry-auf-deutsch.de
translating community. It's a sort of "open-source" translation project with
hundreds of participants. What they're doing is illegal, but amazing
nonetheless. (Having downed HP, they proceeded to take up PoU, DD and DS.)
If you ever want a look at some really obsessive fans, just go through their
forum boards and read a line-by-line comparison between their own and the
official translation.

BTW, they don't pass out freebies. Only translators get copies, and the
translating berths have apparently been reserved four times over.

Fanfic translation is another interesting phenomenon. Cass told me DD and DS
have appeared in several languages now.
