But, didn't he pretty strongly imply that Sirius had only just told 
him, when he [Dumbledore] was talking to Harry at the end of book 3
(I think)?

Hmmm, okay, maybe I went a little beyond what I meant to say (after 
all, I did say that that was what I believed at that moment) - but it 
still doesn't change my mind about the central point; that it was 
Dumbledore's plan to flush out Voldemorte's spy.
