Hi --

Okay, I know I am *ages* behind on everything, but hopefully you will
all forgive me for dredging up old hat again. If my daughter would only
nap for longer than 20 minutes at a stretch, I might actually be able to
participate now & then...

Yes!!!! Catherine, you stated this so perfectly. I've said the same
things about Ron before, but never quite so well. That's exactly my
perception of Ron too. He wants so desperately to be thought of as a
potential auror that he really starts grasping at straws in the latter
parts of GoF. But, he has had this tendency throughout the series. I
also subscribe to the school of thought that Ron is too apt to rely on
wizarding world prejudices and that this will cause him problems at some
juncture in one of the later books. Anyway, I basically wanted to do a
"me too" for this analysis, as it so beautifully summed up my thoughts
on Ron's thought processes.

I hope the person doing the Ron FAQ is paying attention <hint, hint Mr.
Flying Car>

MOVIE: Well, I haven't yet had time to see the 2nd Trailer (downloading
now), but I've enjoyed some of the comments. I agree so much with
Amanda's excellent analysis of how good books can be good movies as long
as you go in with the right expectations. Things will change, but it's
just really another spin on a familiar tale to us all. I'm very much
looking forward to the movie, since I think they've done an excellent
job from what I've seen so far.

HAIR COLOR: Like others, I am bothered to some small extent by small
details that it seems to me that they *could* have done a better job
with. Harry's hair should be black. It absolutely should be black
IMO. It's an important part of who he is, and it would be a very simple
fix for them (hair dye). Jet black, pure black or just darker? Call me
crazy, but I don't fully understand what people are saying about
caucasians not ever having truly black hair. Do you mean that every
strand is not completely black without a hint of any other shade in it?
I suppose. But, there are plenty of caucasians with something darn
close to pure black, and that is how I've always pictured Harry's hair
in my mind. I have a friend that is of "Dark Irish" descent, and his
hair is probably what I imagine Harry's is. They wouldn't have had to
go that dark with Daniel Radcliffe's hair, but I do think it
could/should be darker than it appears to be.

I agree with Amy Z's fervent plea that Ron *must* be taller than Harry.
But, I do think they should have gotten the best actor for the role,
regardless of his height. Maybe Rupert will catch up &/or surpass Harry
for the next movie. <g>

Again, I do think JKR has a fixation on men with black hair. So many of
the characters are described as having black hair. Interesting. I
shall refrain from commenting further. :--)

BLACK EYES: I've never seen this either. For newbies who've been miffed
that their posts are ignored, let me just say that I've raised this
whole black eyes question on at least one occasion before & it was
completely ignored. Just goes to show that timing is everything with
respect to a thread of conversation really taking off. <g>

TIMELINE & GODRIC'S HOLLOW -- Susanna, there is an excellent essay on
this topic in Steve's Lexicon site (link below) and another excellent
analysis in the upcoming FAQ on Mysteries & Inconsistencies. In the
meantime, see the Lexicon:

Wishing I had time to comment on all the great PoA discussion
summaries. Jenny raised some great questions with this last one, and I
will try to make time later as POA is probably my favorite of the books
and this sequence is definitely my favorite part of PoA.

Penny
(caught up ... sort of)
