read the )
(uncontradicted) phrase that Voldemort is heading towards world
domination. IMHO, that's simply not true: He himself says to his DEs
that (inexact quotation, as I have lent the book to my best friend)
his "ultimate goal was to conquer DEATH". Why else would he have
thought of giving his followers the strange name of "Death Eaters"?
And wouldn't he have, during 11 years of steady rise to power,
thought of expanding his reign outside England, if he had really
aimed at dominating the world? As far as we know, wizard and Muggle
killings have all taken place in England, there is no hint whatsoever
at any V-activities in other countries. All the DEs are English, with
the exception of Karkaroff, who IMO went to Hogwarts and was living
in England, before being sentenced and, some time after his release,
named Headmaster of Durmstrang.
World domination would be a bit clich, wouldn't it? It would make
Voldemort another Lex Luthor or Dr. Mabuse. I think that conceiving
him as the person who tries to overcome the ultimate obstacle, makes
him a lot more frightening than "poltical" ambition.**

Yeah, I agree that world domination would be rather boring and
unimaginative. Excellent point, Susanna, and one that I've been thinking
about for quite a while myself. But if what he's trying to do is conquer
death,
then why does he go round murdering loads of people ... what's the point in
terrorising the whole magical world if all you want to do is live forever?
Surely he could have researched that in some little laboratory somewhere
without disturbing anyone. Apart from the belief that he is quite
possibly mad, as well as a complete psycho, I think that he must have some
other aim other than 'to live forever', in order to justify what he is
doing. Just out of interest, why do people think that Voldemort is the way
that he is? What made him turn to the Dark Arts in such a big way??

Hannah :)

P.S. I totally agree with all of you who say that Snape is sexy. I never
quite understood the attraction until I heard those now-immortal words:
"Harry Potter, our new ... celebrity." Be still my beating heart!! Oh for
a chemistry teacher like Snape (My old chemistry teacher was bald, and wore
glasses. Not the same at all.)
