Perhaps the younger generation have got more into Muggle clothing as years have progressed. Thus, Harry's peers seem totally comfortable in robes, the Weasley parents and their peers have some idea but see them as a novelty, and the older generation like Archie have absolutely no idea at all. 

Isn't this how fashion works in the Muggle world?
