 I think Snape has a pretty good idea of who Moony, Wormtail, 
Padfoot, and Prongs are. He also believes that Remus has been helping 
Sirius all along as evidenced in the Shierking Shack scene. I think 
his line of questioning was designed to try and catch Remus off guard 
so that he mightslip up and reveal something. But Remus was cool as 
ice and probably ended up just making Snape madder. This could be one 
reason why he wouldn't listen to any explinations later on, MWPP have 
made a fool of him too many times. Just my thoughts.
