<I have been musing about the Godric's Hollow events,
<and thought of something else:James and Lily are in
<hiding, and they are in Godric's Hollow; We know that
<whoever is looking for them can only find them if the
<secret keeper tells them where they are. How
<does this work? Does it mean that Voldemort could
<know where they live, but not be able to find them
<there, or does it mean that for it to be kept a
<secret, he can't have known that they were there in
<the first place?

These is how Flitwick explains it:" ...The information
is hidden inside the chosen person, or Secret-Keeper,
and is henceforth impossible to find- unless, of
course, the Secret-Keeper choses to divulge it. As
long as the Secret-keeper refused to speak,
You-Know-who could search the village where Lilly and
James were staying for years and never find them, not
even if he had his nose pressed against their
sitting-room window!"
It seems that the fidelius charm makes information
disappear, maybe you use it if, for some reason, you
can't put a Memory Spell on the person that shouldn't
know.
