This week's contest is a logic puzzle, created a few years and tens
of thousands of messages ago by our Dear Departed Co-Founder,
Melanie. For those not familiar with logic puzzles, you are given a
introduction and a list of clues to solve the puzzle. It helps to
make up a chart to keep the clues straight. No need to remember any
HP facts or trivia. It can be solved even by someone who's never
heard of Harry Potter!
Note: Moderators, Elves and other V.O.P.s (Very Obsessed People) who
belong to the Mods group are not permitted to enter this contest, as
they have access to the answers.
REMEMBER!!!!! Don't post your answer to the list!!!! Email it to me
at the address above or to HP4GUCon at aol.com. Also, don't forget that
Contest #8 (Trailer Trashing) is still open!
MEDIEVAL HOGWARTS
It took young Nicky Flamel most of his first year at Hogwarts to get
his five teachers straight, because their names all began with T
(Tadsworth, Tamboni, Tolliver, Tombryan, and Tonilla). Four of his
professors were heads of houses, each in charge of a different
Hogwarts house (Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, or Slytherin); the
fifth did not have a house of his own, but was a deputy, ready to
step in as the head of any house in an emergency. Each of the five
graduated from Hogwarts in a different year (1305, 1307, 1312, 1314
or 1319), and wound up teaching a different subject (Astronomy,
Charms, Defense against Dark Arts, Potions and Transfigurations).
Using the clues below, can you figure out when each teacher
graduated, which house (if any) he/she was in charge of, and what
he/she taught?
1. The five teachers were the head of Hufflepuff, the 1305 graduate,
the Potions professor, Professor Tonilla and the one who graduated in
1314.
2. Professor Tadsworth graduated in 1312. He was not the head of
Gryffindor, who taught Defense against Dark Arts.
3. The Astronomy professor graduated 12 years before Professor
Tamboni, who was in charge of Ravenclaw.
4. Professor Tombryan was the head of a house, but it wasn't
Slytherin.
5. Professor Tolliver taught Transfigurations.
6. Professor Tonilla graduated earlier than the deputy head of
house.
AND REMEMBER!!!!! Don't post your answer to the list!!!! Email it
to me at the address above or to HP4GUCon at aol.com.
Submission deadline is July 17, 2001.
