Well, provided Voldemort pregnancy tested her before sparing her life and it
came up negative, that is.
I've never believed the Voldemort line about "she needn't have died". I
always assumed that if she had stood aside on his instruction he would have
murdered Harry and then turned round and said "Let your last thought be that
you didn't have the guts to stand between me and your only son" and killed
her. I mean, Voldemort even in his Tom Riddle persona does seem to be
something of a sexist git (no female DEs at the reunion, either, that I
could see - and JKR is generally careful to slip a few women in even if she
doesn't make a song and dance about it, in the World Cup teams for example)
but an eviloverlord who spares a powerful and effective magician purely on
the grounds of her sex after having murdered her husband and baby in front
of her not only hasn't read the handbook but hasn't listened to Steeleye
Span singing Famous Flower of Serving Men and sundry other folk songs on a
similar theme, either.
