Well, I find that as abysmal as, and strongly reminiscent of, certain
ecclesiastical groups arguing over their own scriptures without ever
cracking them.

The arguments that have been made in favor of Petunia doing it hinge
on events that weren't even occurring--Marge speaking badly of the
whole Evans clan (untrue) and Marge impugning Lily at that stage of
the conversation (also untrue).

It's one thing to speculate, but when the speculation is founded on
"events" that contradict the canon, then I frankly don't care how
many times you've read the books--it's time to crack them again.
