> Q: "Harry looked up at the sky. Clouds were obscuring the moon
completely." (435) SO WHAT? The question we have written ourselves
hoarse on - why didn't Lupin transform before? Surely the
transformation isn't dependent on being hit directly by the beams of
the moon, or else why hadn't Lupin simply stayed in a closed room at
the time of the full moon to prevent transformation?

Being someone who watches the sky like it is nobody's buisness, the
moon behaves in ways that most people don't notice. In my
hypothesis, the moon must be exactly full for a werewolf to
transform. The moon, as hidden behind the clouds, could have been a
few minutes away from full. When dear Remus walked out, the moon hit
full. It isn't a matter of anything being hit by moonbeams, in my
opinion. It's a matter of the energies given off by the moon when it
is 100% full. What we often see as a full moon is often slightly
waxing or slightly waning, and I think to trigger a transformation,
the moon cannot be waxing or waning. It must be completely full.
Given that the exact moment of fullness can come at any time of day
or night, and unless one is devoted to calculating it, it can be
unpredictable. Part of what makes werewolves dangerous is that
element of unpredictability. Also, being creatures ruled by the
moon, their emotions run very, very high. Remus is, I believe, an
exception to the rule, as he is absurdly controlled, or so we've seen
him around students--he might be different in his personal life. If
I were a werewolf in the wizarding world, I'd be controlled to the
tee in public as well. Hard going about being a creature that, every
28 days, becomes a man-eating monster with no concious, and is prone
to violent outbursts that are probably more ferocious than anything
of which a normal wizard might think.

Continuing on the dear Reemie thread, I want to think that Sirius
sent dear Remus a letter, telling him where he was going, or a place
to meet up, coded of course. Granted, this has to do with me being a
Sirius/Remus shipper, but I want to think that those two ended up
together, trying to sort things out and trying to figure out how best
to help Sirius and protect Harry. After everything they both have
endured, I think they need to be together, regain trust and pick up
where they left off so many years ago. Hope does spring eternal, at
least for those of us mad about dear Reemie. And if Sirius doesn't
want him, I'll take him. *wicked grin*
