Voldy is doomed, but that's nothing to do with kid's lit. It's just 
the demands of telling a story with a conflict between good and 
evil.  Shakespeare finished off all the villains in his tragedies too 
(the only major Shakespeare villain who doesn't actually perish is 
Iago, but he is led away to be cruelly tortured).

You're thinking of silver bullets.  I don't know that werewolves are 
particularly vulnerable to silver hands.
