Sorry about the cross-posting!
I was reading a JAG fanfiction today (I know you're already thinking what
does this have to do with Harry Potter-I'm getting there!) and in it the
mentioned the story of the Iliad and that when Helen was finally reunited
with her husband they had a daughter named Hermione. So knowing how JK
usually has reasons for naming the characters certain names (Krumm-german
for crooked, Remus-the Roman myth of Romulus and Remus who were raised by a
wolf) I decided to see if I could find out more. When I searched online I
came up with an encyclopedia match of Hermione in a Shakespeare play. This
got me really interested since JK has been known to use Shakespeare in the
books before (Mandrakes are mentioned in MacBeth). Here's what the entry
said: Hermione--queen of Sicilia and wife of Leontes in Shakespeare's The
Winter's Tale. Hermione is a stable, warm-hearted wife and mother whose
virtue is called into question only by her husband. Unlike Desdemona,
another of Shakespeare's long-suffering victims of irrational jealousy,
Hermionethought to be deadis brought to life at the play's conclusion.
Does anyone have any have ideas/theoris to what this could mean for our
Hermione. I have a feeling it means something-I just don't know what....I'd
love to hear anyone's theories so please share!
